Sandal Neroli – Hawaiian Sandalwood Perfume/Cologne Spray 5mL & 15mL
About Hawaiian Sandalwood:
Let yourself dive into the frequencies of ‘Iliahi the native Hawaiian species of sandalwood. This white flowering variety is only found on the Big Island of Hawai’i. A rare and beautiful gift from the islands.
The aromatic profile is distinctly unique and also quite familiar. The top note is like vanilla-balsamic-wood-spice. The middle is smooth and begins to sweeten with the ‘typical’ Indian Sandalwood aroma coming on. The dry out note being sweet and luxurious and is very long lasting.
Recently the essential oil has become available again for the first time (except in small amounts) in possibly 150 years. The essential oil distilled from Santalum paniculatum, has an aroma that is deep, woody, balsamic and rich; similar to the classic Indian sandalwood (Santalum album), all the while distinct with a more prominent top note. This white flowering sandalwood tree only grows on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Hawaiians use(d) ‘Iliahi mainly for minor medicinal treatments and to scent kapa, the bark cloth used for clothing and bedding.
The variety, Santalum paniculatum, is endemic to the Big Island of Hawai’i and is found in a montane (4,000 to 7,000ft) dry environment Mamane and Naio forest with scattered Koa and an understory of various native shrubs including Pukiawe, Lauala, and Aali’i. This Big Island climate is ideal and these sandalwood trees can reach over 50 feet high with a canopy diameter of over 30 feet, average trees are 33 feet high and have canopies measuring around 23 feet. Tests have shown the quality of this Hawaiian Sandalwood oil exceeds other varieties currently on the world market, with total santalol content in the 50-70% range.
There are currently 6 species of Sandalwood trees in the Hawaiian Islands, however the only species being harvested to produced essential oil at this time is Santalum paniculatum. The preserve that cares for the forest only harvest in the most sustainable of ways. No healthy trees are taken, only those that are in decline, which fortunately creates a natural reaction in the tree that increases the overall santalol content making the aroma fuller & deeper. This oil is distilled in the forest it is harvested in.
Being cared for with aloha, the forests on the Big Island of Hawai’i that these sandalwood trees come from are protected and harvests happen with the most care & expertise. Sol Flower Botanicals has direct contact with the reserve manager and distiller of this sacred oil. The integrity of the oil is just outstanding. All proceeds are put back into the project.
